The ITS Science Colloquium started on 20 February and will meet four times in the spring semester 2014 with talks in cognitive sciences, physics and biology.

The ITS Science Colloquium is a series of talks dedicated to topics at the crossroad between disciplines in theoretical sciences. It is aimed at a broad audience of scientists and students of science and wants to stimulate thinking in unexpected directions and kindle the dialogue between different scientific cultures. The first talk of the series with the ambitious title "What is mathematics" by Rafael Núñez attempted to create a cognitive science of mathematics. On 20 March Terry Hwa, who is the first Senior Fellow of the Institute for Theoretical Studies, introduced us to Quantitative Biology, which is also the title of the course he is giving at ETH. On 17 April there will be a talk by Denis Bernard at the crossroad between quantum physics and probability theory. Biology will also be the subject of the forth talk, by Stainslas Leibler, on 2 May.
